GORMIE (Alex O’Gorman) is an Australian-based, globally operating producer and mix engineer who makes extraordinary records, caring as much for the artist as the music they create.
With top-shelf musicianship and technical expertise, GORMIE is a trusted collaborator for some of the most compelling artists in international contemporary music, including Angie McMahon, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Courtney Barnett), Julia Jacklin, Big Smoke, and more.
GORMIE’s journey began decades ago with hands-on experience at Risk Sound Studios in Naarm/Melbourne, where he honed skills in voiceover and audio production for film. These early experiences laid a strong foundation for his transition into music production, allowing GORMIE to approach projects with a nuanced understanding of both technical precision and creative storytelling. Today, his work is centred on recording, producing and mixing, with sessions split between his bespoke recording studio, The Treehouse, nestled in the scenic hills of Pakenham Upper, Victoria, Australia and the acclaimed Purple Wayne Studios in Collingwood, Victoria, Australia.
Over the years, GORMIE has collaborated with a diverse roster of international artists. His credits include work with Angie McMahon, Juice Webster, Julia Jacklin, Stella Mozgawa, Gab Strum, Blake Scott, Big Smoke, and more. His production credits on records by Angie McMahon (Light, Dark, Light Again 2023 – 2024 ARIA win for Best Independent Release; Salt 2019) and Tracy McNeil (You Be the Lightning 2020 – 2020 ARIA nomination for Best Blues and Roots Album) have cemented GORMIE’s reputation as a standout creator of globally renowned records. GORMIE co-produced and mixed Angie McMahon’s 2018 single Missing Me (2018), certified gold in 2019.
A formative moment in GORMIE’s career came during a session at the iconic VOX Studios in Los Angeles, where he observed Grammy-winning mix engineer Shawn Everett in action while recording with Lucius. This experience profoundly influenced his approach to production, inspiring him to push creative boundaries and explore unconventional techniques that bring out the best in the artists he works with. GORMIE’s production philosophy is rooted in his own background as a musician, allowing him to connect authentically with artists and translate their vision into a cohesive and captivating sound.
