GORMIE (Alex O’Gorman) is an Australian multi award-winning engineer whose extraordinary career reflects a deep connection to excellence in recording/mixing. With a background rich in musicianship and technical expertise, GORMIE has become a trusted collaborator for some of the most compelling artists in international contemporary music, including Angie McMahon, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Courtney Barnett), Julia Jacklin, Big Smoke, and more.

GORMIE’s journey began with hands-on experience at Risk Sound Studios in Naarm/Melbourne, where he honed his skills in voiceover and short film audio production. These early experiences laid a strong foundation for his transition into music production, allowing GORMIE to approach projects with a nuanced understanding of both technical precision and creative storytelling. Today, his work is centred around recording and mixing, with sessions split between his bespoke recording studio nestled in the scenic hills of Pakenham Upper, Australia and the acclaimed Purple Wayne Studios in Collingwood, Australia. 

Over the years, Gormie has collaborated with a diverse roster of international artists, earning accolades and respect for his intuitive approach to capturing and enhancing their unique sounds. His credits include work with Angie McMahon, Juice Webster, Julia Jacklin, Stella Mozgawa, Gab Strum, Blake Scott, David Western, and Big Smoke. His significant production credits on ARIA-winning/nominated records by Angie McMahon (Light, Dark, Light Again 2023; Salt 2019) and Tracy McNeil (You Be the Lightning 2020) have further cemented his reputation as a standout international producer of great records.

A formative moment in GORMIE’s career came during a session at the iconic VOX Studios in Los Angeles, where he observed Grammy-winning mix engineer Shawn Everett in action while recording with Lucius. This experience profoundly influenced his approach to production, inspiring him to push creative boundaries and explore unconventional techniques that bring out the best in the artists he works with. GORMIE’s production philosophy is rooted in his own background as a musician, allowing him to connect authentically with artists and translate their vision into a cohesive and captivating sonic experience.
